Rev 1:12 – The Golden Candlesticks

Rev 1:12, 20  And I turned to see the voice that spake with me. And being turned, I saw seven golden candlesticks;  (13)  And in the midst of the seven candlesticks one like unto the Son of man, clothed with a garment down to the foot, and girt about the paps with a golden girdle.  (20)  The mystery of the seven stars which thou sawest in my right hand, and the seven golden candlesticks. The seven stars are the angels of the seven churches: and the seven candlesticks which thou sawest are the seven churches.

Here we have a description of what John is seeing as he is called; he turns and he sees in the midst of the candlesticks the Son of Man, Jesus Christ himself.

This refers all the way back to the book of Exodus where Moses receives the layout of the Tabernacle.  In Exodus 25 the instruction is given as to how to make the candlestick and that it was to provide light upon the table holding the shewbread. The shewbread in the Hebrew language is described as the Bread of Presence.  Christ is our Bread of Presence.  He is in the midst of His Churches.
Joh 6:35  And Jesus said unto them, I am the bread of life: he that cometh to me shall never hunger; and he that believeth on me shall never thirst.
In Revelation chapter 1 we learn that the seven candlesticks are the seven churches mentioned in verse 11; and the churches shines their light on Christ, who is present with them always.  We are not to shine our light upon prosperity, politics, good works, people, worldly things or any other think; our light is to shine upon Christ and His work of Salvation, His Righteousness, His Holiness, His Grace, His Mercy, His Judgements, His Word, His Long-suffering, and His Gospel; The single and only purpose of the Church is to light up Christ.
Eph 3:21  Unto him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus throughout all ages, world without end. Amen.
